The Tom Design Story

16+ years of jewelry making

2006

I started making jewelry as another creative outlet while studying art in college. I took a chance and sold my first pair of earrings at an art fair in Southern Utah. A fire was lit. I came home excited to make more styles, and started selling my handmade jewelry in local shops and fairs.

2010

Shortly after our first baby a few years later, we moved to Northern Idaho for Mark to attend law school. Saying goodbye to family, friends, careers and connections was difficult but Tom Design was my stability during this time. I decided to focus on our Etsy shop, and enjoyed making and shipping jewelry while the babies slept.

2013

I added personalized jewelry to our shop in 2013, giving meaning and purpose to everything we made. Growth followed, and soon we expanded from one room to the entire basement. Mark left his job as an attorney to start working full time with me and our first team members. We bought our first engraver to make our most special items, actual handwriting and fingerprints as memorial pieces.

2017

In 2017 we moved to Southern Utah (where it all started) and moved into our first studio. A couple years later my mother very unexpectedly passed away and I made my first handwriting necklace for myself, with my mother’s writing. I experienced what our customers had been telling us for years - the comfort they feel when they wear their loved one’s handwriting. I feel true compassion with each customer’s story, bringing even more meaning to our work.

2021

In October 2021 we built out a brand-new studio, it’s been a dream come true. We have an amazing team of women (and Mark!) that I get to be with each week and
make meaningful keepsakes for our customers.

Thank you for supporting our dreams,

♥ Debbie
